The living water of the body expresses itself in tides. The eight major fluids of the body emerge from this one flow. They are water, cellular, transitional, intercellular, synovial, blood, lymph and cerebral spinal fluid. The fascia and fat are semi-viscous fluids. Each fluid inspires certain qualities of movement, touch, sound and consciousness. The fluids offer easy access to the body systems and the developmental movement patterns. Fluid harmony nurtures personal presence, playfulness in learning, ease in making relationships and in communicating non-verbally.

  • Understand the physiology of the fluids, fascia, fat and cell membranes
  • Explore the alchemy of balance between fluid, membrane and vibration
  • Embody the qualities of specific fluids through movement and touch with improvisation and BMC techniques
  • Recognize psychophysical characteristics of each fluid and fluid combinations
  • Discover your personal fluid affinities/shadows and those of others
  • Experience natural re-creation through rest and action
  • Apply the fluids to bodywork, movement, voice, visual and performance art

Readiness to Relate: Embodying the Reflexes

Excellent class for athletes, contact improvisers and anyone working developmentally with children!

Location: 2242 University Ave., Suite 214, St. Paul, MN
Sep 6 -- Dec 13 (no class Oct 11) Tues 2:30 p.m. -- 5:30 p.m.
$550 39 hours 13 classes No Pre requisites

The body holds hundreds of potential action loops of stimulus-response that bridge the inner world and the outer environment. The RRR underlie all integrated movements. The reflexes, active in the spinal cord and hindbrain, establish your basic survival patterns. The righting reactions of the midbrain support your continuous vertical posture with gravity. The equilibrium responses of the forebrain help maintain dynamic balance. Embodiment of the RRR offers you entry into the BMC secret of successful touch and movement repatterning -- the creative enticing of another person's innate readiness to change.

  • Name, explore and integrate the RRR through touch, movement, voice and mind
  • Differentiate and apply the RRR to the three planes of movement -- horizontal, vertical and sagittal
  • Use the RRR for relating to self, others, earth and space; gathering and reaching, taking hold and letting go, rolling, weight bearing, vertical uprightness, locomotion and equilibrium
  • Apply the RRR to the practice of contact improvisation, dance composition and movement therapy
  • Learn how the RRR are helpful for facilitating normal infant development
